How to Paint a Room Like a Pro

 

Preparation: 

#1 Choose Your Paint: 

Select Color and Finish: Choose the color and the kind of finish that is appropriate for your room whether it is matte, satin or gloss. 

Calculate Quantity: You need to calculate how much paint will be enough to cover the area of the room. 

#2 Gather Supplies: 

Tools: Paint rollers, paint brushes, painter’s tape, drop cloths, paint pan, stir sticks, extension pole, sand paper, filler, scraper, ladder, screwdriver.

#5 Cut In: 

Paint Edges and Corners: To paint the edges, corners as well as fixtures, it is advisable to use an angled brush and paint a 2-3 inch border. 

#6 Roll the Paint: 

Load Roller: Dip the paint into a tray so that you can load your roller with it in the right manner. 

Apply Paint: First, paint from the top in ‘W’ form, and then come down to fill in the gaps. 

#7 Apply Additional Coats: 

Ensure Coverage: Let the first layer dry as stated in the paint can and if you feel that it is needed apply another layer. 

#8 Detail Work: 

Remove Tape: When using the painter’s tape, ensure that you pull it off slowly so that it does not pull the paint with it. 

Touch Up: Take care of any areas that were not covered, or flaws which may have been left. 

Finishing Up: 

#9 Clean Up: 

Wash Brushes and Rollers: Wash with warm soapy water, if the paint is latex and mineral spirits if the paint used is oil based. 

Dispose of Materials Properly: Abide by the local laws regarding disposal of paint cans and other related items. 

#10 Reassemble the Room: 

Replace Fixtures: Replace any fixtures which were earlier removed. 

Move Furniture Back: Bring back furniture once paint is totally free from moisture. 

#11 Enjoy Your Work: 

Final Inspection: Look for any areas that were not covered and paint them. 

Appreciate the Transformation: Feel the new appearance of your freshly painted room.
