The first World Cup took place in 1930 in Uruguay, and it has been held every four years since then, with exceptions during World War II.

National teams compete in regional qualification tournaments to earn their place in the World Cup. 

Each continent has its own qualifying process, and the number of teams that qualify from each region varies. 

The host nation automatically qualifies for the tournament.

The World Cup begins with a group stage, where the 32 qualified teams are divided into eight groups of four. 

Each team plays three matches against the other teams in their group. 

The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage, which includes the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final match.

The winning team receives the FIFA World Cup Trophy, which is made of 18-carat gold and stands about 36 centimeters tall. 

The trophy depicts two human figures holding up the Earth.

Brazil holds the record for the most World Cup victories, with a total of five titles. Germany and Italy have both won the tournament four times. 

The top goal scorer in World Cup history is Miroslav Klose of Germany, who scored 16 goals across four tournaments.

The previous World Cup, took place in Qatar 2022 It featured 32 teams from around the globe, and the matches were held in various cities across the country. 

Argentina emerged as the champions It was the perfect final to an unforgettable FIFA World Cup, with Argentina and France delivering an all-time classic at Lusail Stadium.

La Albiceleste looked to be in control for most of the match and were two goals to the good by half-time, thanks to Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria. 

However, France produced a stirring late comeback inspired by two goals from star man Kylian Mbappé.

During a breathless and breath-taking extra time, Argentina regained the lead with Messi's second goal, only for Mbappe to level once again. 

Ultimately, the match was decided by penalties, with Gonzalo Montiel clinching Argentina's historic triumph.

How ever The World Cup is one of the most-watched sporting events globally, attracting billions of viewers. 

Broadcasters from around the world secure rights to televise the matches, and the tournament garners massive viewership across various platforms.
